Working Closely With The Difference Makers

WHAT WE DO

We work closely with the following organizations to make a difference!

Maharogi Sewa Samiti, Warora (Leprosy Service Society) was established by the late Baba Amte with the intention of treating leprosy patients.
Established in 1949 with Rs. 14, six leprosy patients and a lame cow, MSS, Warora has spread its work all over Maharashtra and many organizations have taken inspiration from Baba’s life and are working for the downtrodden across the country and even the entire world.

Founded in 1977, New Hope Housing is an innovative, award-winning non-profit agency in Northern Virginia committed to finding creative and lasting solutions to end the cycle of homelessness by offering homeless men, women and children the services they need to change their lives and succeed. Each of those success stories adds to a stronger, healthier community for all.

Dr. Abhay and Rani Bang founded SEARCH in Gadchiroli, one of the most undeveloped districts in Central Maharashtra.

Snehalaya means ‘Home of Love’, and was founded in 1989 to provide support for women, children and LGBT communities, who have been affected by HIV and AIDS, trafficking, sexual violence, and poverty. We operate in Ahmednagar, a town and district in the agricultural region of Maharashtra, India, and provide services to over 15,000 beneficiaries annually.
Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services.

Walk for a good cause

2016 walk was led by Dr. Vikas Amte

Annual Heart & Soul Walk

We organize an annual walk we named The Heart and Soul Walk each Fall. The name is intended to encourage the participants to acknowledge their own good health. We want you to commit yourself to maintaining and improving your health by regular walking and healthy eating.

The first walk was held at River Bend State Park in Virginia. Since then the walk has been held at Lake Accotink, in Springfield, Virginia. Over the 12 years that we have been holding this event, the participation has ranged from 50 to over 200. The participants ranged in age 1 to 80 years. We have walked through rainy and cold mornings and on beautiful, warm sunny days. We were honored to have Drs. Prakash and Manda Amte join us for the walk in 2015, Dr. Vikas Amte and his son-in-law Gautam Karjgi in 2016 and Drs. Sheetal Amte Karajgi and her husband Gautam in 2017.

This small, but dedicated group has raised over $150,000 since it’s creation, from volunteers around the country. Maharogi Sewa Samiti has used these funds to improve services for the elderly afflicted with leprosy, and for blind, deaf, and mute children. The funds have also helped to upgrade hospitals and the school in Lok Biradari Prakalp in Hemalkasa.
