New Hope Housing

Founded in 1977, New Hope Housing is an innovative, award-winning non-profit agency in Northern Virginia committed to finding creative and lasting solutions to end the cycle of homelessness by offering homeless men, women and children the services they need to change their lives and succeed. Each of those success stories adds to a stronger, healthier community for all.

Shelters Program

New Hope Housing (NHH) operates six emergency shelter programs in Fairfax County providing 119 shelter beds year-round plus an additional 90 beds during winter months. During extreme cold or hot weather, there is a “no turn-away” policy. The shelter programs first provide safe, decent, and welcoming housing along with nutritious meals. The goal is to rapidly re-house residents into appropriate affordable housing in the community and then provide services to help them maintain their housing and thrive.

Supportive Housing Program

NHH provides long-term housing with ongoing services for individuals or families with particular disability needs and who, without this opportunity for subsidized housing with supports, would likely be unable to maintain permanent housing.
In line with the mission of providing not only shelter but also the tools to build a better life, the core of New Hope Housing services for residents is built around education, employment, debt reduction, and life skills as the means to obtain and maintain housing.

Our Involvement

REACH IN US Foundation has established a partnership with New Hope Housing in the area of healthcare and education. So far REACH IN US volunteers have provided lunch for the shelter residents twice. Chanda has visited the shelter to speak to the residents about their healthcare needs and questions. She has also given a presentation to the female residents at Kennedy Shelter on importance of personal hygiene and sexually transmitted diseases. Both Chanda and Ravi have been approved to work directly with children and have been actively engaged .
